Sudesh Lehri - A True Entertainer

A comedian should always be a sport. Making fun of someone else is easy, but one who can make fun of himself to make others laugh is a true comedian.

I have always been a big fan of Sudesh Lehri, since he was in Laughter Challenge. When I heard him for the first time in Laughter Challenge, he said while standup that his sister-in-law praised him that when she listens to his standup comedy, she feels she is listening to a spiritual preaching (satsung). It was a literally an ROFL for me.

I loved him in Comedy Circus even more. He did everything he can for the sake of entertainment.

He created a fake character of his characterless wife Billo. He took slaps from a 15-years younger partner Krushna. Even he promoted his partner Krushna over himself when he felt Krushna's dialogue delivery is better than him. For promoting others he even degraded himself by getting called Sudya. Many times I pitied even him for that. And I hate Krushna and the writers for that.



Sudesh Lehri openly agreed his rival Kapil Sharma is a better comedian than him, though as a part of an act or maybe even behind the scenes. Actually by all kinds of numbers that is true. Be it the number of fans, bank balance, projects in the queue, public demand, etc. But I hate Kapil for many reasons.

Sudesh Lehri made fun of himself for not knowing English. In one act where he was portraying Sohail Khan, when everyone was laughing at some joke he said and he wanted everyone to listen to his next line, he said to the audience, "Listen Listen Listen". But one girl continued to talk, he said, "Hey you lisni", as if "lisni" is the female version of "listen". I died of laughter due to that.

The humble nature of Sudesh makes me like him the most. I don't know how innocent he is in real life but he looks so innocent onscreen. That's why he was once called Bholi Soorat Ajuba Sudesh.

That humble nature and also his jovial nature have helped him grab the roles he got in Bollywood in films like Ready, Jai Ho and Great Grand Masti. Other comedians are only seen making fun of others, but Sudesh Lehri is seen making fun of himself most of the time. Apart from being a comedian, he was a very good singer, musician and mimic too.

I always think Sudesh Lehri never got the recognition and adulation that he deserves. All other comedians and the peers, who worked with him, did. His performance, sincerity and hard work always get overshadowed and overlooked. Sometimes Krushna and sometimes writers took all the appreciations.
